Base

Base is a secure, low-cost, builder-friendly Ethereum L2 built to bring the next billion users onchain². Base is incubated within Coinbase and built on the open-source OP Stack.

Base does not have its own blockchain token. Ether (ETH) is used as the native gas token¹ on Base, enabling the network to leverage Ethereum's security while offering significantly lower transaction costs.

Base inherits the security of Ethereum through its rollup architecture. Transaction data is posted to Ethereum L1, ensuring that even if the Base sequencer¹ fails or acts maliciously, users can always recover their funds using only Ethereum L1.

Fault proof¹s allow anyone to challenge invalid state transition²s on Base. When a fault proof¹ is submitted and verified on Ethereum L1, the invalid output is removed and the honest party is rewarded.
